National Middle Child Day

Today we celebrate Brayce, my middle child. She has 1 older sister and 2 younger brothers. Watching Brayce and her siblings, I understand how middle children can get lost in the crowd. I am the baby of my family, so I never lacked for  attention, which is also true for my boys. The oldest child is responsible and helpful, which is so true in our family as well. Then there is the middle child.
Brayce, I don't want you to get lost in the crowd. You are too special for that. Some people say you shouldn't say that your children are special because then they will grow up entitled and blah, blah, blah. But Brayce you are special. God made you special and unique. You are a gift to our family.
You are kind. You are sensitive. You are loving. You have a big heart. You are slow, which reminds us all to slow down and enjoy the moment. You are beautiful. You are smart in the think outside the box sort of way. You love hugs and kisses. You are the first one to say LOVE YA. You are encouraging. You are funny. You tell it like it is. You like for your desk to be a mess. You want an easy bake oven. You are content with who you are and what you have.
I want to be careful with my words because I don't want to put labels on you. I don't want to tell you that you are disorganized and whiny. I want you to be who God made you to be. I want you to love God and love others with all that you are. I want you to love big even if that means you get hurt.
Being your mom is a blessing. I am your biggest cheerleader, daughter. And on the days where you have felt overlooked, I want to say, "I am sorry. You are loved in a big, messy, bear hug sort of way."
