Promise to be Present

Hi my beautiful children!
It's Mommy. I wanted to make a promise to you, a promise to be present.
You told me a couple weeks ago that I wasn't fun, but that I let you do fun things.
I am thankful I can let you do fun things. I am thankful that you can spend most of your days playing, especially playing outside. Your imaginations are in full swing and you have fun everyday.
I'm even ok with not being "fun." But I do want to promise you to be present. Now that doesn't mean that I'm not going to shoo you outdoors for you to play for hours with your brothers and sisters. I will.
But what I am promising you is to be more present. Not to entertain you, but to play with you. To put my phone down. To put my book down. To get off the couch. To pretend. To play. To make memories with you. I want your memories to include me in the mix, not just on the sideline.
You are precious children. I enjoy you so much. I will never be a perfect parent. But I will be a present parent. Lord willing, may all your childhood memories and beyond involve me.
Now quit growing up so quickly.
